Hey ROJS how are you doing?
Hi there, I’m doing great!
Who are your main influences as a band?
There’s quite some influences from Bowie to Bon Iver, LCD Soundsystem. During the creation of Inner Lights the album that all of these latest songs are from I was also listening to a lot of Gordi’s music, I absolutely love her songwriting and production. Also a lot of Brian Eno, especially for the instrumental stuff.
Sum up your music for us in three words?
Sad, (slightly) weird, explosive.
What's your biggest highlight as a group so far?
So far, most probably being featured in Notion magazine was kind of a big deal for me personally.
How have friends and family reacted to your journey so far in music?
They’ve honestly been really supportive, I was honestly surprised at the response. Even when I showed them the album almost everyone had a positive reaction and that honestly meant quite a lot.
Congratulations on the release of your new single 'You Now'. We're loving it! How did it come about and what’s the meaning and/or message behind the song?
This one is about me trying to patch up my relationship with my grandma which has been quite complicated and I didn’t expect to write about that but I had some bottled up feelings about the whole situation. She died a few years ago and I hadn’t really dealt with that up until that moment.
What was the recording and writing process like for this song?
The song came together in a weird way and quite fast. It was the first song I finished for the album. I was fooling a bit on piano and I had this background noise recording from a park that a friend sent me. So just to see how it sounded I pulled the file over the piano and I had one of those “Holy shit” moments. After that the lyrics kind of just poured out of me. It was quite an interesting experience.
How would you describe this single sonically for our readers?
It’s not exactly a piano ballad but it’s sad and it has a lot of piano in it (laughs). And there are some quite nice skate park sounds in it.
What are your plans for the rest of 2024? What can fans expect?
There’s shows planned in the UK but I cannot say much about that just yet. I already have some ideas for the next album and they’re some of my favourite stuff so far, but that’s most probably not coming out until 2025.
